British pop artist Charli XCX has been remarkably vocal throughout her career in regards to opinions feminism, misogyny and women in the music industry, most recently and most notably through the release of her new documentary on feminism, The F Word And Me. XCX has taken to Twitter to voice her complaints and concerns — both at the fact that the documentary took the better time slot, and of course, the content of the documentary itself. She was prompted by this short video trailer showing a pretty awful depiction of, well, men, posted to Twitter by BBC Three. The very idae of beauty and aesthetics is being demolished to where now women are being applauded and encouraged to look like fat, outer space cyborgs. Anything that a woman or a gay person wants is theirs.

Almost half a million girls have uploaded videos onto YouTube, inviting internet trolls to validate their appearances. That's almost half a million girls between the ages of 9 and 14 posting videos online asking strangers to assess whether they're pretty or ugly. And if the idea of young women fretting over the way they look isn't unsettling enough, just look at the comments they attract. They're part of an internet-savvy generation. They've seen the other videos. They know that uploading their own and putting themselves up for scrutiny will invite brutal criticism from internet trolls. She was so earnest. I found that really interesting; the way she was talking about something so dark but expressing it so innocently.
